The Church has its origin in the Trinity. It was prepared by the Father when He called together His Chosen People, it was inaugurated by the Son when He formed His community of disciples and chose twelve among them to be Apostles, and it is guided by the Holy Spirit.
It is true that there is a human element to the Church for though Christ the Head is divine, we, Her members, are human.
Nevertheless, the Church has its origin in the Trinity and therefore it is not a man made institution with man made rules. The Church is not a club, a special interest group, or a political party. The Church is the Bride of Christ and Jesus is Her Heavenly Bridegroom.
The Church is not an organization it is a living and breathing organism. The Church is the Mystical Body of Christ and Jesus is Her Head. The Church is therefore an extension of the Incarnation throughout time and history. As Christ's One Body, the Church continues Jesus' work of teaching, governing, and sanctifying.
Jesus and the Church are unique, but not seperate. The Catholic Church and Jesus Christ are one; joined together in a mystical marriage bond.
The Church is our Mother. As St. Cyprian of Carthage once wrote: "He can no longer have God for his father who has not the Church for his mother. The Church is one Mother…plentiful in fruitfulness…from Her womb we are born, by her milk we are nourished, and by her Spirit we are animated.”
